Synopsis: In the future, a devastating event known as Second Impact destroyed Tokyo as we know it, giving rise to the current day Tokyo III, a city under siege by mysterious lifeforms known only as Angels. Mankind’s only defense are Evangelions, man-made machines piloted by Rei, Shinji, and Asuka, all who are the tender age of fourteen. The fate of Japan and the entire world now lie with these children, though they might not have the power to save the most important thing of all: each other.
Review (May contain spoilers): Neon Genesis Evangelion is the one and only manga that took manga to a whole new level. It is definitely the most meaningful. It makes the reader think. Why are we here? What is our purpose? Sadamoto Yoshiyuki is a genius, to have created such a phenomonal manga. It has a sense of realism, yet it doesn’t. (Hope you understood that.) Everything is as real as it can get, but at the same time it isn’t. Shinji and Asuka’s emotions are so human, not fake and exxagerated. They go through the same things normal humans do. (Except piloting humongous robots, of course.) This is one manga that a reader can truly “relate to”. The ending was splendid, even if it did leave a lot of questions. (But, hey, what’s “The End of Evangelion” for?) The art was magnificent. Sadamoto Yoshiyuki is the best manga-ka I have ever known. Not only does he know how to make an epic manga, he knows how to make it look epic also. The illustrations were very clean and accurate. Unlike most other manga-ka, Sadamoto never messes up on those weird perspectives. Everything looks so natural and fitting, the entire manga is pure genius. You should definitely read this if you haven’t already, and watch the anime as well.
